A 353MW solar farm in New South Wales (NSW), Australia, is now operational.
The Walla Walla solar plant in NSW’s Riverina region was developed by Fotowatio Renewable Ventures (FRV) Australia and Canadian infrastructure fund OMERS.
The project contributes to the New South Wales government’s renewable energy goals while also benefiting the local economy. Construction of the solar farm created up to 350 jobs – bolstering regional employment and investment in local services.
Before construction, FRV Australia signed a 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Microsoft to provide renewable energy to its Australian data centres.
Walla Walla is the eighth project in FRV Australia’s operational portfolio, which now boasts a combined capacity of nearly 1GW.
Earlier this year, the company refinanced its entire Australian portfolio for $1.2bn, including Walla Walla.
Additionally, FRV Australia recently secured financial close for the 100MW/200MWh Terang battery project, which is currently under construction.
Carlo Frigerio, FRV Australia’s Chief Executive, comments: “The first kilowatt-hour of Walla Walla solar farm reinforces our commitment to delivering high-impact renewable energy projects.
“This achievement not only supports Australia’s renewable energy targets but also reinforces our position as a key player in the sector.”
