US Solar developers claim 30% tax credit for using domestic solar products

One of the largest solar projects in the United States has gained approval for construction.

Ohio’s Power Sting Board approved the Savion Oak Run Solar project. The project will include a 800MW utility scale solar factory alongside a 300MW co-located battery energy storage system (BESS). The Tesla produced BESS is expected to have a 20year lifespan.

Despite the project’s approval, the Sun Oak Run Solar Park has faced a lot of opposition from the local community. The local county board concluded that the solar project’s positive environmental contribution did not out way the requirements of public interest, convenience, or necessity for Ohio’s residents. Arguments around solar damaging the local agricultural industry came into this.

Unfortunately for solar critics, the Sun Oak Run Solar facility is set to benefit Ohio’s local community greatly. In its construction phase, the project will create 3000 jobs for the local community and a further 63 permanent positions. $300mn in funding will also be generated for local schools as a direct result of the project. Landowners will also be able to create more money from solar on their land than agricultural practices (which is predominantly corn farming in Ohio).

Overall, the Sun Oak Run Solar project will provide more opportunities for long-term investment and ensure the country has the appropriate resources to ensure school systems are well funded and create job opportunities.
