According to Brazil’s Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME), solar farms in Brazil’s Northeast set two new regional generation records on June 28th and 29th, achieving 9,598 MW and 9,760 MW, respectively.
Data from the National Electric System Operator (ONS) revealed that the 9,760 MW peak represented 84.5% of the region’s energy demand at that time. The previous high was recorded on May 13th. Since the start of the year, Brazil’s solar parks have set eight new records, with six occurring on the Northeast grid.
2024 has seen Brazil’s total electricity generation capacity increase by 7,946 MW, with solar photovoltaic (PV) plants, including distributed generation (DG) systems, contributing 73.5% of this growth.
According to the national power sector regulator Aneel, Brazil now boasts 43.6 GW of installed solar capacity.
