German independent power producer (IPP) Encavis has commissioned a 114 MW solar park in Borrentin, its largest project in Germany.
Built by EPC firm Belectric, the project increases Encavis’ domestic solar capacity to 700MW and marks a milestone for Belectric, which has now constructed 1.2GW of solar projects in Germany.
“We are proud to have successfully commissioned this major project in Borrentin within such a short timeframe, thanks to the joint effort of our teams, our partner Encavis, and all stakeholders,” said Thorsten Blanke, managing director of Belectric.
Construction began in March and was completed in nine months. Blanke also noted that Belectric-built plants now provide a capacity equivalent to a nuclear power station.
Encavis signed a ten-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Dutch EV charging provider Allego to supply power from the solar park to its charging network.
This project follows Encavis’ announcement of plans to develop 500 MW of additional solar capacity in partnership with Innovar Solar.
It also comes shortly after Encavis was acquired by global investment firm KKR, a move CFO Christoph Husmann said marks “a new chapter in our company’s history.”
The German solar sector is experiencing strong momentum. The government’s recent innovation tender, which supports solar-plus-storage projects, was nearly three times oversubscribed, leading to 587 MW of new capacity awards.
