Enel Green Power, the renewable energy division of Italy’s Enel, has announced the completion of the installation of nearly 170,000 solar panels at the Girgarre Solar Farm in central Victoria, Australia.
The commissioning process for the project has now begun.
Valued at AUD $140m, the Girgarre Solar Farm is on track to begin operations in early 2025. Once fully operational, it is anticipated to generate around 200GWh of energy annually.
For the project, a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) was made with SmartestEnergy, a Japanese-owned electricity retailer. The electricity generated by the solar farm will be supplied to its commercial and industrial customers, according to the company.
The Girgarre Solar Farm began construction in September 2023, and Victoria-based Beon was responsible for the project’s engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC). The solar modules were provided by Longi, with Nextracker supplying the trackers, and Ingeteam supplying the inverters.
Currently, Enel Green Power Australia operates three solar farms: South Australia’s Bungala One and Two projects with a combined capacity of 220MW, and the Cohuna Solar Farm in Victoria, with a capacity of 27MW.
