Emirates Airlines and Etihad Clean Energy Development have signed an agreement to launch a large-scale solar energy project at the Emirates Engineering Centre in Dubai.
The partnership was formalised at the World Green Economy Summit 2024, a key platform for promoting sustainability and global collaboration.
The agreement, signed by Waleed bin Salman, Vice Chairman of Etihad Clean Energy Development, and Yousuf Mohammad Ali, DSVP Group Procurement and Logistics at Emirates Airline, focuses on enhancing energy efficiency and sustainability.
The project will involve the development, engineering, construction, and commissioning of solar PV systems at the Emirates Engineering Centre, with a 20-year agreement for operation and maintenance.
The solar systems will have a total capacity of 23,177 kWp, generating 34,301,960 kWh annually. A total of 39,960 solar panels will be installed, covering 37% of the facility’s energy needs and reducing CO2 emissions by over 13,000 tonnes per year.
HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline & Group, stated: “This initiative highlights Emirates’ commitment to renewable energy as part of our sustainability strategy.
By integrating solar energy into the Emirates Engineering Centre, we are reducing our carbon footprint while supporting the UAE’s clean energy goals.”
HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and CEO of DEWA, added: “Etihad Clean Energy Development will lead this project, showcasing its expertise in energy systems. Our partnership supports the UAE’s vision for a sustainable future and sets a precedent for renewable energy in the aviation sector.”
This project is part of broader efforts to advance the UAE’s sustainability agenda and reduce reliance on non-renewable energy sources.
