Singapore-based renewable energy developer Gurīn Energy has announced the approval of a final investment decision (FID) for the Capas Solar Power Project in the Philippines.

The greenfield initiative will become a solar farm with a capacity of 39 megawatts (MW), situated in the Municipality of Capas, Tarlac. It has secured a 40-hectare site via a 25-year lease agreement with the Philippines’ Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA).

When completed, the Capas Solar Power Project is expected to produce enough clean energy to power approximately 18,000 homes and prevent over 1 million tonnes of CO2 emissions during its operational lifespan.

Ping Mendoza, the Country Manager for the Philippines at Gurīn Energy, highlighted the company’s dedication to Asia’s movement towards 100% clean energy, pinning the Philippines as a key player in renewable energy within the region.

The FID is a large step forward for Gurīn Energy’s foothold in the Philippines, where the company maintains a lineup of projects totalling 1 gigawatt (GW): including the ongoing construction of the 75MW Palauig Solar Power Plant in Zambales province.
