Plans for what will be the UK’s largest solar farm have been delayed by the Secretary of State. The Mallard Pass Solar Farm, which spans 4.2 miles along the Lincolnshire and Rutland border, is designed to power 92,000 homes over the next 30 years.

Initially, a decision on the project was scheduled for May 16th, but the deadline has now been extended to “no later” than June 13th. The updated deadline was communicated to Parliament.

Due to its size and scope, the solar farm is classified as a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project, meaning that the local authorities of South Kesteven District Council and Rutland County Council will not make the decision.

Energy Secretary Claire Coutinho explained that the extension is to “ensure there is sufficient time for the department to consider the application.”

“I have decided to set a new deadline of no later than 13 June for deciding this application,” Ms. Coutinho stated. “This decision to extend the deadline is made without prejudice to the final decision on whether to grant or refuse development consent.”
