Plans for a large solar farm and two battery storage sites have been submitted to Aberdeen City Council. The proposed locations are between the Bridge of Don and Dyce.
The proposals, put forward by English company Innova Renewables, are for the Lower Bodachra Solar and Storage facility.
The development would cover 212 acres, including a 72MW solar farm and a 45MW battery energy storage system on land at Lower Bodachra Farm and Perwinnes Farm, east of Dyce.
The project aims to generate enough electricity to power approximately 23,800 homes, nearly one-fifth of Aberdeen’s residential properties, once connected to the grid.
According to the developers, the facility is expected to save an average of 142,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually, contributing significantly to the region’s shift toward renewable energy.
Innova Renewables has engaged with Aberdeen City Council officers and the Scottish Government’s Energy Consents Unit before submitting its application. The final decision on the proposal will be made by Scottish Ministers.
If approved, construction is expected to take around four months. As reported by Aberdeen Live, the solar farm and battery storage sites are projected to operate for 40 years, after which the land will be returned to its original condition.
Separately, Source Galileo Limited has submitted plans for a battery energy storage facility at Goval Farm, near Dyce.
The site, approximately the size of a football pitch, would store 49.9MW of energy and connect to a nearby substation via underground cables.
The facility would feature monitoring systems, including heat and smoke detection, ventilation control, and collaboration with local fire services for safety.
