Chinese solar cell manufacturer Jiangsu Runergy New Energy Technology Co Ltd has announced the start of production at its new solar module manufacturing facility in Huntsville, Alabama.

The plant has an annual capacity of 2 GW, with the first customer orders set to be fulfilled this month.

The opening marks a key milestone in Runergy’s strategic expansion into the North American market as part of its global growth plans.

“With the increasing demand for solar energy in the US, we aim to meet the country’s renewable energy targets by producing our solar modules locally,” said Jusong Wang, managing director of Runergy Alabama.

By the end of 2023, Runergy reported cumulative solar cell shipments exceeding 65 GW. The company has established manufacturing facilities across China, Thailand, Vietnam, and now the US, producing polysilicon, wafers, cells, and modules.

A recent report by the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) and Wood Mackenzie highlights that US solar module manufacturing capacity has surpassed 31 GW, nearly quadrupling since the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) was enacted in 2022.
