Solar Energy UK and RePower Ukraine have signed an agreement to facilitate easier delivery of backup power systems to hospitals and critical infrastructure.
The agreement was signed at Solar & Storage Live in Birmingham, wherein RePower attended Solar Energy UK’s stage for discussions with MPs, association members, and industry members.
Both parties have committed to supporting the implementation of PV and BESS systems for Ukranian hospitals, water treatment plants, schools, and municipal institutions.
Furthermore, they will share expertise and training and work together on promoting policies that tackle energy poverty using solar power.
Nick Arnold, International Ambassador of RePower Ukraine, says: “I am really pleased to see the signing of the MoU between SEUK and RePower at Solar & Storage Live and very grateful for the support from the members and staff of SEUK, especially Chris Hewett, Gareth Simkins and Masha Matakova.
“SEUK has been helping RePower behind the scenes for the last 12 months and hopefully this helps raise awareness of the charity even further.”
RePower Ukraine
RePower Ukraine, formed following the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, has worked to mitigate the impact of the invasion on the country’s energy infrastructure. Russia has destroyed more than half of the country’s energy generation capacity, leaving millions of Ukrainians without access to reliable power.
For example, RePower provided a hospital with both a 24KW rooftop solar power system and a 28.8KW BESS to power its intensive care unit reliably.
Chief Executive of Solar Energy UK Chris Hewett adds: “This agreement with RePower Ukraine is not just about responding to the catastrophic impact of the war on Ukraine’s most vulnerable people.
“It is also about recognising how Putin’s invasion led to the energy price crisis, further underlining the need for rapid decarbonisation. I call on more of our members to help RePower Ukraine, with both kit and cash.”
Artem Semenyshyn, Board Member of RePower Ukraine and former Chief Executive of the Solar Energy Association of Ukraine concludes: We are excited to set up a framework for long-lasting fruitful collaboration with SEUK on the further development of PV and energy storage projects for Ukrainian hospitals.
“This will strengthen the historically important cooperation between the UK and Ukraine.”
