Press Release
Sinovoltaics, a global leader in quality assurance for the battery energy storage system (BESS) and solar photovoltaic (PV) industries, has launched BESSential, a service offering 100% battery pack review.
This groundbreaking service, developed with volytica diagnostics, aims to detect and correct thermal, electrical, and capacity imbalance issues directly at the BESS factory.
Battery systems are built from cells forming modules, which are combined into racks and installed into containers. These containers undergo extensive factory testing to ensure they meet industry standards.
However, traditional Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) at the container level often miss smaller defects that might not become apparent for years. Many BESS integrators only perform sampling performance tests, potentially overlooking issues in subsystems, racks, or battery packs that could emerge post-installation.
Sinovoltaics and volytica’s BESSential service addresses this need for thorough analysis. Leveraging Sinovoltaics’ auditing experience and volytica’s advanced algorithms, BESSential evaluates each pack down to the cell level, identifying and replacing defective components.
The service collects FAT data and assesses each cell for temperature shifts, voltage irregularities, and capacity imbalances, flagging anomalies for further inspection and replacing volatile components.
Arthur Claire, Director of Technology at Sinovoltaics, emphasized the importance of BESSential in protecting clients’ investments by ensuring BESS asset performance and safety. He highlighted that even minor cell-level defects could jeopardise entire BESS investments.
Typically, battery pack data analysis is performed during site commissioning, leading to suboptimal testing environments and delayed defect resolutions. According to the Electric Power Research Institute, nearly 50% of severe BESS failures occur in the first year after commissioning.
BESSential provides a thorough factory analysis before shipment, ensuring only good components are shipped, thereby avoiding project delays. volytica’s data-driven approach offers swift diagnostics, identifying performance inconsistencies and early signs of cell degradation.
Claudius Jehle, Managing Director and CEO at volytica, noted that thorough pre-commissioning testing of energy storage systems is essential to mitigate investment risks. Current practices often miss critical defects by testing systems as a whole. BESSential’s meticulous approach of testing 100% of components significantly reduces post-deployment setbacks, saving time, money, and avoiding disputes with OEMs.
BESSential provides detailed reports on defects and remediations, giving BESS owners and investors confidence in their assets. This service reduces the likelihood of failures, ensures predictable performance, and enhances grid reliability.
Additionally, BESSential helps lower maintenance costs, improves operational efficiency, and builds greater investor trust by identifying and replacing high-risk components before commissioning.
Since 2009, Sinovoltaics has pioneered BESS and PV technical compliance and quality assurance. Their services include quality assurance inspections, factory audits, ESG reports, and traceability audits. The company operates globally with offices and inspection teams in key manufacturing bases worldwide.
