Nordic independent power producer Alight has expanded into Denmark with the acquisition of the 215 MW Lidsø solar park in Lolland.

Developed by European Energy, the project will be one of Denmark’s largest solar parks and marks a significant milestone in Alight’s regional growth. SEB supported the acquisition with €127m in debt financing.

Located in Rødby Havn, Lolland Municipality, construction of the Lidsø solar park began in the summer of 2024, with commissioning expected in the summer of 2025.

European Energy has secured long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) for the project and will continue overseeing its construction and operation.

Warren Campbell, CEO of Alight, says

“Denmark represents an exciting opportunity for Alight. Our acquisition of the Lidsø solar park, which European Energy has done a fantastic job developing, will help meet the country’s rising electricity demand and marks just the beginning of our plans to contribute to Denmark’s energy transition.

Additional strategic acquisitions and partnerships will play a key role in our expansion.”

This transaction underscores European Energy’s ability to bring high-quality renewable energy assets to market. We are confident that Alight will be a responsible and capable owner, ensuring the park continues to contribute to Denmark’s clean energy transition.”

European Energy remains committed to Lolland Municipality, where it has multiple projects under development.

“We continue to work closely with the municipality to ensure that renewable energy investments contribute to local employment and attract outside investment,” Knud Erik Andersen, CEO of European Energy, adds.

The acquisition aligns with European Energy’s strategy to accelerate renewable energy deployment and strengthens Alight’s position as a leader in Nordic solar energy.

Alight plans further expansion in Denmark and the Nordics through strategic acquisitions and partnerships.
