UK-based solar developer Lightsource bp has announced the completion of its 188-MW Honeysuckle solar project in St. Joseph County, Indiana.
The project will provide electricity to Google under a power purchase agreement (PPA), following Google’s announcement of a USD 2 billion data centre campus in Fort Wayne.
“We have an ambitious goal to operate every Google campus on clean electricity every hour of every day by 2030, which will include our Fort Wayne data centre once it comes online,” said Amanda Peterson Corio, Google’s global head of data centre energy.
Lightsource bp said that the privately funded solar farm is contributing to the domestic supply chain and was constructed using 85% local labor.
The project also supported U.S. manufacturing by incorporating solar panels from First Solar, trackers from Array Technologies, and steel from Nucor.
“With our project partners, we are supporting the rapidly growing U.S. solar manufacturing sector, local unions, and investing in rural America,” said Emilie Wangerman, COO of Lightsource bp USA.
She added that the Honeysuckle Solar project highlights the benefits being realised through the Inflation Reduction Act.
