Octopus Energy Generation has expanded its presence in the French renewable energy market by acquiring agrivoltaics developer OX2 France from OX2 AB.
The acquisition includes OX2 France’s team, which has an established track record in project development and aims to bolster Octopus Energy’s capabilities in the sector.
OX2 France is currently developing a pipeline of 21 agrivoltaics projects across Nouvelle-Aquitaine, Centre-Val de Loire, and Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.
If completed, these projects could add nearly 500 MW of capacity in France by 2031, more than doubling Octopus Energy’s existing capacity in the country.
France represents Octopus Energy’s largest green energy generation market in continental Europe. The company plans to invest over €1bn in the country’s clean energy infrastructure by the end of 2025.
It has also been selected to participate in France’s upcoming offshore wind tender, marking a significant milestone.
In addition to this acquisition, Octopus Energy recently purchased Sungen 10, a portfolio of over 100 rooftop solar projects on French farms. The company plans to work with local partners to expand rooftop solar installations in the coming years.
“France is a shining market for us as we continue to scale renewable energy across Europe,” said Zoisa North-Bond, CEO of Octopus Energy Generation. “OX2 France has been leading the way in agrivoltaics, proving that solar power and agriculture can thrive together for a cleaner future.
By joining forces, we are one step closer to creating more sustainable energy solutions for millions of people in France and beyond.”
This acquisition continues Octopus Energy’s collaboration with OX2, which has previously included acquiring wind farm projects in Sweden.
Meanwhile, France’s Decree No. 2024-318, issued earlier this year, defines conditions for solar installations on agricultural land, emphasising minimal impact on soil and agricultural yields.
