It was a pleasure to interview the Rt Hon Chris Skidmore at Solar and Storage Live in Birmingham this year!

Solar&StorageXtra is the new publishing part of the Solar and Storage Live event series where we will be interviewing our esteemed speakers, exhibitors, sponsors and attendees to get their live reactions to the event and the important discussions within the industry.

The Rt Hon Chris Skidmore joined Solar&StorageXtra to discuss the UK Solar industry and the challenges that face the growth of Solar!

What the Rt Hon Chris Skidmore wanted to make clear was that there must be multiple changes to the energy system in order for the transition to Net Zero to be successful. The main priority is to develop a long-term, strategic plan for solar that can help improve and enhance grid connections and infrastructure. Once this plan is in place, it could help remove any potential connection barriers that would prevent widespread solar generation in the UK.

For the Rt Hon Chris Skidmore, the energy transition must be user focused for consumers to feel the full benefits of the transition to Net Zero.

“We need to make this (the energy transition) user focused. We need to be able to empower the householder, not just be a recipient of energy but… have the opportunity to share in the energy conversation; to have flexibility on the grid. We are seeing people generate and store their own energy! It is not about the technology, it is about the outcome and purpose of that technology and that is making life easier for people.” – Rt Hon Chris Skidmore, Chair of the Net Zero Review
