Solar panels have been installed at a service station in Oxfordshire, UK, as part of a £1.1m project to reduce energy costs and support carbon neutrality.

Moto Hospitality selected Geo Green Power to install solar panels at 13 motorway service stations, including Cherwell Valley Services near Bicester. The project generates over 1,464kWp of solar energy and cuts CO2 emissions by 311 tonnes annually.

Jess Lockwood, property director at Moto, stated: “We recognise the critical role we play in driving the UK towards a more environmentally friendly and net zero future.

“A key element of this is helping the motorway network embrace green energy and renewable solutions. That’s why we chose Geo Green Power… to carry out this solar installation.”

Alongside Cherwell Valley, panels were installed at Winchester North, Wetherby, Grantham, Pease Pottage, Donnington Park, Stirling, Trowell, Woolley Edge Southbound, Thurrock, Southwaite, Woolley Edge Northbound, and Rugby. The installations are expected to generate 1,240MWh of energy annually.

Moto is also investing in electric vehicle charging and has installed its 1,000th charging site.

Geo Green Power secured the contract through a competitive tender involving 12 companies and will provide a five-year maintenance plan.

James Cunningham, managing director of Geo Green Power, said: “We aim to inspire other businesses to evaluate their environmental footprint and adopt sustainable practices.”
