The Romanian Photovoltaic Industry Association (RPIA) and the Romanian Wind Energy Association (RWEA) have together requested more stability from the Romanian government regarding public support for renewable projects.
The two associations represent providers, suppliers, producers, and developers from across the solar PV and wind sectors.
The joint appeal comes as the Romanian government hints towards upcoming revisions to the Contract for Difference (CfD) support scheme’s distribution. Concern addressed the potential neglect of solar projects, as the revisions focus on reinforcing the wind projects.
Previously, the Romanian government promised equal distribution of support between the solar and wind sectors.
According to the joint statement, the diversion of resources in favour of wind seems to follow the logic that solar projects already receive financing under government schemes including the Resilience Facility or the Modernisation Fund.
The associations are concerned that, despite financial aid already in place, solar projects might not see future development following these revisions, saying:
“RES development is a competitive process involving a number of factors, such as economic considerations, land availability, environmental impact, and grid connection, against the backdrop of an unpredictable legislative framework.
“Therefore, the existence of projects that have won calls for European funds is not an indicator of the number of MW that will be built and operational.”
